This Sunday we’re excited to have Hypernova in-studio, performing un-plugged tracks live and spinning songs from their debut album, Through The Chaos.
The band have an amazing story (they’re from Tehran) and an awesome sound (New Order meets Franz Ferdinand). They’re currently on a nationwide tour and hope their performances will open a window on a different, more positive aspect of the Middle East than we’re used to seeing on TV. Also this week, Adrian Perry (son of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry) will be calling in to give us the scoop on his band (TAB), who have just confirmed direct support dates with Slash and will also be touring on a handful of dates with Stone Temple Pilots and Cage The Elephant in early fall.

Tune in to SG Radio this Sunday July 11th (10 PM til midnight) for two hours of the best tunes and talk.

About Hypernova
There are some artists who consider “suffering for their art” to mean weathering harsh critics and dealing with paparazzi. But when performing your art in your home country could mean arrest, larges fines or even a public flogging, the idea takes on a whole new meaning. After playing numerous secret gigs in their homeland of Iran hoping to avoid detection, Hypernova made an exodus to the U.S. giving them not only a means to do what they love without threat but also a new lease on personal freedom. Their debut album, Through the Chaos, was released on April 6, 2010 via Narnack Records. Produced by Herwig Maurer and mixed by Sean Beaven (Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt, Marilyn Manson), Through the Chaos is self-described as “a futuristic version of Joy Division meets the Chameleons with a little bit of Che Guevara.”

Hypernova will be playing a special benefit concert this Friday (7/23) in DLTA to raise funds for InVenture Fund, a Micro-Venture Capital Fund that empowers businesses to lift their communities out of poverty. Fellow Iranian band Yellow Dogs will also be on the bill alongside DJs Arash Saedinia (Pomegranates) and Mahssa Taghinia (Pomegranates/Amoeba/Finders Keepers).

About Adrian Perry // TAB the Band
TAB the Band defy easy categorization. They may love the Beatles and Cheap Trick as much as T-Rex and the Rolling Stones, but TAB aren’t classic rockers; they’re a vibrant, contemporary band that blends the vigor of punk, the might of arena rock and the melodicism of power-pop, earning the admiration of Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse and J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr, alt-rock stalwarts who requested TAB The Band as their opening act. TAB The Band’s full range can be heard on Zoo Noises (released Jan. 26, 2010), a freewheeling, all-encompassing carnival ride, fueled by such intoxicating singles as the percussive “She Said No (I Love You)” and the breakneck hooks of “Bought and Sold.”

TAB The Band may be the best example of how great things can come from no expectations. Brothers Adrian and Tony Perry, sons of Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, began the group almost as a lark. “I grew up in LA,” explains Adrian, “and whenever I came to visit Tony, we’d always record stuff for fun.” Adrian had a few serious bands while he was in high school and college, continuing to occasionally play with Tony. “Around Christmas break in 2006 we said, let’s mess around and make some songs,” remembers Adrian. “Tony invited his friend Ben Tileston to have real drum tracks. We ended up writing nine songs in a week — it was very organic. Before we knew it, we had a show booked.” TAB have since supported Stone Temple Pilots and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and thier music has been featured on the Howard Stern Show and HBO’s Entourage.
