There’s just something about summer that gets us all in a hot mess. Pheromones and libidos ablaze with the sudden heat and stickiness of the June, July, August months. For us Seattlites, the surge of summer energy seems to come about more intensely, like a great volcanic eruption that in reality, haunts and threatens us everyday.

We live in a cloudy, cool, moist (yes moist) environment for 305 days of the year. We bundle ourselves in wind and water proof attire. Protect ourselves in lovely wool coats and scarfs from our most infamous mild and wet days and nights. So suddenly when we spot flesh, the words “Ewww, who is that?” blurts out of our now drooling mouths. Could it be? The lovely showing of bare legs, arms, and feet? “Well, hell, I haven’t seen the likes of skin since 2007”.

The only way I can describe this phenomenon would be to compare those first days of summer to living like we were back in the early 20th century, where the anticipation of viewing the hidden loveliness beneath that petticoat was such a big part of the intrigue between lovers. Use of their imaginations were essential in fantasizing about the sight, feel, and taste of those secrets that lie under one’s attire. Seduction involved the thrill of surprise.

For Seattle, this intrigue results in a sudden shock wave when viewing mass quantities of luscious skin running rampant through town. Californians and Floridians are immune to the shear bliss of this sight. I am sure the most beautiful creatures pass you by as a yawn takes over your face and you realize it is just another day. But here, in the Northwest, we truly appreciate the glorious hobby of checking out the “eye candy” and playing hard on those beautifully long, sunny days. Like starved dogs in a kennel, given just enough light and human contact to survive, we suddenly feel this summer surge around the first week in July. POW! Sandals, skirts, shorts, tanks, bikinis, and bare chested loveliness surface and our eyes experience that cartoon-like, triple eye-buggin’ stare. <0 <0 <0

No matter if you’re gay, straight, married, single, young or old, this summer fever can hit you hard. And to manage that heat, one must indulge in all sorts of cool summer fun and delights (Insert Imagination Here). With days so long and life so short, seems to me that this summer provides the perfect opportunity to satisfy that primal craving!

Make it a hot one!
