This Sunday hosts Nicole Powers (SG’s Managing Editor) and Lacey Conner (our resident recovering reality TV star from VH1’s Rock of Love and Charm School) will be joined in-studio by LA alt-rockers Standing Shadows, who’ll be playing an acoustic set, and string player extraordinaire, Ysanne (The Smashing Pumpkins, David J, & more), who has promised to do saucy things in her knickers live on air, and who might just be persuaded to get her throbbing instrument out if you ask nicely (and pledge to her Kickstarter campaign!).

As if that wasn’t enough musical excitement, Lacey will also be talking about her utterly awesome new single, “The Stranger”, and the super hot new video (directed by Chad Michael Ward) she’s just shot to promote it. Check it out here:

Standing Shadows

Los Angeles based alt-rock-electro band tanding Shadows combine infectious guitar melodies and soundscapes, vintage synth tones and warbles, driving percussive beats, and the intimately emotional vocals, ranging from uber-chill heroin whispers, to heart-pumping, sweat-soaking screams. With the attitude of Interpol, the soundscapes and emotion of Radiohead, and the epic percussion and performance of Muse, they form an alternative-electro-rock show that is breathtaking, jaw-dropping, and crowd-rallying.

With over 90 shows under their belts in the last 18 months, Standing Shadows continue to develop and perfect their ever evolving live performance. With smoke machines, strobe lights, live projection video manipulation, and the intensity of a stadium show, Standing Shadows lead the crowd on a musical-visual epic journey with every performance.

Standing Shadows recently spent weeks recording in Joshua Tree desert with producer Chris Goss (Queens Of The Stone Age, UNKLE, Duke Spirit, The Cult) at Rancho de la Luna, with engineer Ethan Allen (Gram Rabbit, Daniel Lanois, Spindrift). The band sweated out 3 new songs in the ungodly desert heat: “Freakshow,” “Just A Part Of Me,” and “One by One,” which features Dave Catching (QOTSA, Eagles Of Death Metal) on guitar.

Ysanne / I Love Strings

The Smashing Pumpkins, Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Elton John, David J (Bauhaus / Love & Rockets), Tiësto, Brett Anderson (Suede), Christina Perri (Twilight) and William Reid (Jesus and the Mary Chain) have all had Ysanne play violin, viola or cello for them and/or she’s created string arrangements for songs they have sung. As one of the world’s most sought after alternative rock and pop strings musicians, she’s played live with rock’s most legendary, innovative and inspiring musicians, including Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction / Red Hot Chili Peppers), Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees), Alain Whyte (Morrissey), Laurie Anderson, and Nik Turner (Hawkwind).

Now she’s making her second solo album. It’s comprised of love songs written and recorded over the past 8 years, and features some of her talented friends including David J (Bauhaus / Love & Rockets), Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees), Alain Whyte (Morrissey), Nick Yeatman (Joe Strummer / Nick Cave) and Amina Bates (Scanners). The recordings have been produced by Kerry Brown (Smashing Pumpkins / Catherine), Kevin Dippold (Smashing Pumpkins / The Seeds), Liam Watson (The White Stripes) and Earle Mankey (Sparks / The Runaways / Concrete Blonde), with much of the album recorded on the same 2″ tape machine that was used for the Smashing Pumpkins album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

It sounds a m a z i n g…

And so she’s running a Kickstarter campaign to fund an orchestra to record her string arrangements. Press Play, and please Pledge!

Lacey Conner

Given Lacey’s musical background, as well as her love for television entertainment, she has found a way to combine her two passions, by joining forces with Vh1. Lacey is best known for her villainous ways on Vh1’s hit tv show Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, as well as her role on Vh1’s highly rated show Charm School with Sharon Osbourne.

However, Lacey has many sides to her career. She is also a singer, song-writer, and bass player, and has toured the U.S. multiple times as a singer with Lords of Acid, and with her rock band Nocturne. Lacey’s is also a dedicated supporter of animal rights and has worked tirelessly in the field of animal rescue. In May of 2007, Lacey created Heroes K9 Rescue, an organization which rescues animals who are scheduled to be euthanized at Los Angeles’ over-crowded city shelters. Lacey is also an advocate of human rights, as well as the environment, and strongly supports many organizations that are involved with these causes.

Her new single, “The Stranger,” which Lacey wrote and performed, was produced by Anthony Mysliwiec (aka “Tadpole”) and recorded by David Rieley (godaveygo.com). The accompanying video, directed by Chad Michael Ward, features Aaron Rossi (of Ministry) on drums, Brent Ashely (of Wayne Static & Orgy) on bass, Meegs Rascon (of Coal Chamber & We Are The Riot) on guitar, and Trevor Friedrich (of Combichrist & Imperative Reaction) as the “lead Wolf.”
