_ Monah Li

Born in Vienna, Monah is the product of a psychiatrist mother and judge father. She studied fashion and medicine, married a heroin addict (with whom she had a daughter), has battled anorexia, bulimia, and drug addiction herself, has worked as a professional sub and a dom, and launched a highly successful international clothing line under her own name before doing a stint at Bebe as their design director.

After marrying the charismatic “bad boy writer” Jerry Stahl “Payne” (her fourth husband), Monah was herself inspired to write. The pair enjoyed a deep intellectual and emotional connection, a crazy and dark love, and a powerful sexual addiction that kept them tied up in a tumultuous relationship that lasted for 15 glorious – but also very destructive – years. They have since divorced.

Upon reflection, Monah realizes the secrecy of her bulimia was as dishonest and distancing to their relationship as Payne’s cheating, which he did on a grand scale. A passion for writing and belly dancing has since replaced Monah’s less healthy and all consuming addiction to the kind of “love” she experienced with him.

Monah is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, and also writes a popular blog called Showroom of Perfection. Her forthcoming book, Beauty and the Feast – a Hollywood Memoir of Binging, Purging and Healing, explores bulimia, love and sex-addiction, sex work, BDD, and more.
