Dr. Phil Plait comes at science blogging with some heavy credentials, having actually worked on the Hubble Space Telescope and, to a lesser extent, the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) programs. His blog, Bad Astronomy, began life as an outlet for his frustration at the misuses and misunderstandings of astronomy in popular culture, but soon became a venue for his advocacy of all things science-based.
This Sunday (Mar 13th) our very special in-studio guest will be rock journalist and author Neil Strauss. He’ll be talking about his latest offering, Everyone Loves You When You’re Dead, an interview anthology-cum-self-help book, featuring wise (and not so wise) words from the likes of Trent Reznor, Lady Gaga, Chuck Berry, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, Johnny Cash, and many, many more.
Our story begins with a poker game gone bad… a lifeless body on the floor, hand still clutching its cards… whacked on the head with a bass guitar. In the background, Mike Patton’s haunting film score crescendos over the radio waves as the other two poker players argue over what to do with the body. Incinerator? Garbage disposal? They haven’t a clue.

MAKES ME HAPPY: My boyfriend Joshua, family, friends, animals, animal rights, spring, vegan noms, LOLcats, playing DS, my animals, good times, drinking (sometimes), watching TV.
MAKES ME SAD: My boyfriend, family or friends being sad, all forms of animal cruelty or neglect, same with people, thinking of death and the people I love dieing.
HOBBIES: Playing games, music, hanging out, social drinking, parties, reading, browsing the internet.
5 THINGS I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: Animals, family, boyfriend, friends, music.
VICES: Biting my fingernails.
I SPEND MOST OF MY FREE TIME: At home with my boyfriend Joshua, my dog Holiday and our cats, hanging with my best friends at the end of our apartment building hallway, at my mom’s house, subway, or at Jake’s (my BF’s twin) house with my ferrets!
Q: I’m recently divorced (she rediscovered her Christian side after 10+ years, ergo boom!), and I really want to change the relationships in my life (open things, polyamory, etc). The problem is I began going out again with someone 6 months after the divorce, and we spoke very clearly about this being a fling for both of us (me getting back in the game, she coming off a bad relationship). All well and good. But, we lasted a lot longer than expected, more than a year, and she started trying for the whole white picket-fence package. Job loss and my move to Europe intervened. Now I’ve got a chance to get involved with someone else, but the problem is that someone wants to be serious too. My question is: What do I need to change to attract less conventional women? I refuse to play with someone’s feelings (and life plan) just to get my kicks, but I don’t really understand why the only girls I get close to are the traditional type. Thx in advance for the help!
