I remember when I was a eight, my twelve year old brother ‘borrowed’ our dad’s 25th Anniversary Playboy (January 1979). When he opened the page, there she was, sprawled out on a red velvet tapestry. Her blue eyes glistened and her figure was simply marvelous –– almost perfect. She had this gorgeous, long, golden hair flowing down her back. Her left hand was poised behind her head covering her left eye, her right hand was down by her legs, which where both were bent at the knees. Needless to say this image was something special, and it ingrained itself in my subconscious. I was too captivated by her image to actually read any of the accompanying text.

Remember that dream from when you were younger? The one where you’re walking the halls of your high school and everyone is looking at you funny and you can’t figure out why, and then you look down and find that you’re naked, and everyone sees you at your most vulnerable. That dream came true for me this past Saturday night. Instead of being involuntarily naked in a dream, it was real life, and I had actually consciously chosen to go nude on a stage in front of a theatre full of strangers.

Naked Girls Reading is exactly what it sounds like. I heard about it randomly one night out in Boston and thought that it would be a perfect wacky event to cover for my Boston nightlife blog. I sat in the darkened theatre at midnight and watched with bated breath as four women came out in beautiful silk robes and sparkling jewelry and fantastic heels, and one by one, they approached the microphone, dropped their robes, and read to the audience from a book. Was anyone listening to them? I kept losing track of what they were saying because I was just so amazed, they were there… naked, for everyone to see.

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, vintage style icon Dita Von Teese has put her own twist on the world’s favorite Mexican cocktail. As a spokesperson for Cointreau, the drink naturally includes the orange liqueur (Cointreau is a triple sec produced in Angers, France). But there’s also some more unlikely ingredients which give it a kick and a contrasting demure floral note.

It could be said that every day is Mardi Gras on SuicideGirls – and there’s no beads needed to see our beautiful breasts. However, if you’re looking to get in the carnival mood, you could do no better than to check out the steamy sights and sounds of LA’s own incredible 19-piece New Orleans-style orchestra and cabaret, Vaud and the Villains. Having been blown away by recent performances in the SuicideGirls Radio studio and at The Mint, we checked in with bandleader Vaud Overstreet to find out how he came to channel the sexy and sordid essence of the Big Easy.

Hi this is Missy!

I started SuicideGirls ten years ago and for a good part of those ten years we’ve been trying to create a tv show about our live tour: the SuicideGirls Burlesque Show. Vh1 has been nice enough to give us a shot at it, and so we’re going to start things off by looking for some of the most unique, interesting & beautiful burlesque performers in the US.

We are looking for women who are:

Those with tattoos, piercings, and talents such as burlesque dancing, fire twirling, contortion, aerial talents on rings or silks, or anything unique are encouraged to apply.
