When I was asked to write a weekly column for Suicide Girls, my immediate questions was, “About what?” Because, truly, I didn’t know what the fuck anyone reading this would want to hear from me.
“Anything,” they said.
Well, alright. But I’m pretty sure they didn’t mean How to Make and/or Buy Weapons Grade Narcotics: A Guide In Multiple Parts, which is what I wanted to write about. But court sucks, and you know it. So instead, I’m calling this “Things I Like That You Might Like Too.” It’s exactly what it says it is.
Let’s get started:
Janelle Monáe Sketches from Comic Artists
Periscope Studio is a collective of comic artists in Portland, Oregon. Often times they have a theme were a handful of artists contribute pieces for the blog, and their recent Janelle Monáe sketches were standout. Monáe is a dream come true for pop music. If her opening for Erykah Badu on tour, and pairing with the king of southern swagger, Big Boi, on the track “Tightrope” is any indication of future success, we’ll have a long and distinguished career to enjoy.
The artist collective also did some work relating to Mad Men that is also excellent.
Popgun editor Joe Keatinge tipped me off to this gem. Destino is a short animation film that originally started as a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dalí in 1945. Deemed too financially risky, the project was put on indefinite hiatus until finally completed in 2003 at the request of Disney’s nephew. Watching the video is like a short acid trip – bewildering and strangely beautiful to the point of distorting of time.
Louis C.K. Trolls Donald Rumsfeld
Former two-time Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has been on a book tour supporting his new biography. Apparently book sales make for stranger bedfellows than politics because Rumsfeld has even been on The Daily Show. Rumsfeld was a call-in guest to the Opie & Anthony Show, a talk radio program that is no stranger to controversy. Louis C.K. also happened to be a guest in-studio.
Anyway, Louis C.K. starts asking Rumsfeld if he’s a lizard, because according to self-proclaimed Son of God, David Icke, Rumsfeld is part of a global conspiracy of shapeshifting, elitist, interbreeding reptilian-humanoids from the Draco constellation who are controlling people’s minds by broadcasting a Matrix like propaganda we perceive as reality from the hollowed-out Moon to suppress Truth Vibrations that allow people to understand their true potential as infinite consciousness.
I shit you not.
To be fair, this conspiracy theory is only slightly less stupid than Scientology. Rumsfeld dodges the question like a professional, but Louis C.K. just keeps asking him to deny the claim. This goes on for almost fifteen full minutes. Glorious.
Felicia Day’s Awkward Assist to Odd Future’s “Sandwitches” with The Roots
Posed to break stronger than Wiz Khalifa after Kush & OJ, Odd Future has the potential to be the hottest thing out of L.A. since the Jesus Christ of Rap, Mr. Tupac Shakur. Taking shots at Eminem for the most in-your-face lyrics, and thankfully putting some anger back into hip-hop that reminds me of a brilliant cross between Tech N9ne and The Cool Kids, I hope the musicians continue to deliver raw rhymes that make Tyler The Creator, Hodgy Beats, and the rest of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All household names. The collective has eleven different albums that you can download for fucking free via links on the top of their blog. Check out The Odd Future Tape Vol. 1 and Radical first, then get the rest.
When the Obama Administration’s Justice Department decided to further sell-out the American people by helping Bank of America try to bring down Wikileaks, a real example of what Anonymous can do was unleashed on the idiots at HBGary Federal. Faster and more punishing than loose DDOS attacks on Visa and Paypal, the complete dump of HBGary Federal’s information was still only a taste of what can happen if a small group of determined and intelligent individuals defend the truth.
Ars Technica has a great, in-depth article about how the raid went down, and why HBGary Federal was a shitty security firm to begin with, serving as further proof of how old people in positions of power are still relatively clueless about the emerging culture of global freedom and transparency.
What we need more of is people with enough courage to uncover the truths about the greedy perverts who control and oppress those who attempt to step outside the boundaries of passive consumerism. Anonymous is an idea, not a group or an organization. I’m Anonymous, you’re Anonymous, we’re all Spartacus. Welcome to Rome.
