[Dwam in Parallelism]

Dwam is from France. She has been with SuicideGirls since 2008, and is both a model and a photographer.

How did you first get involved with SuicideGirls?

I just applied (as a model).
As a photographer, it started when Sweety and Maedusa asked me to shoot them a multi.

What’s your background photography-wise?

I don’t really have any proper background. I experimented a bit when I was in art school, then I just tried. However I assisted P_Mod for a while, and gathered as much knowledge as I could.

What was the first photo you had published?

Hahaha, a band’s picture in a local paper, nothing glorious.

[Dwam and Charlie in Self Timer]

How would you describe your style?

I don’t know! Do I have a style?
I think I like to see the girls impersonate a character, to create scenes, and to tell some stories.

What gear do you use?

A Canon 550D, and a 15-55 and 50mm lens most of the time.

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

It depends. Sometimes I play around with Lightroom, for color correction mostly, to add a mood or an ambiance. I also drew and added graphic effects on a few sets. Otherwise I edit as little as possible. I want to see real people, not plastic dolls.

What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such amazing sets?

Literature and movies, mainly. And the girls! Sometimes the girls evoke images and scenes, or sometimes I’ve got a very precise idea myself. Then I look for the girl that would best fit the idea. But usually I ask them if they have any idea, mood, or theme in mind, so we can work on it together.

[Nemesis in Dorian]

What is your favorite image?

This one. [above]

Tell us why it’s your fave and how you achieved it?

Well, it’s a picture of Nemesis, one of my favorite people I met through the site, and it sums up pretty much everything I love: gender queerness, literature, timeless feelings. It’s also a great memory. I love it.

Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph that you haven’t? (And tell us why)

There are tons of people I wish to meet and work with. But right now on the top of my mind I think of Glitch, Chunni, Lumo, Adria, Opaque, Shanti and Malloreigh. Just because!

[“Honey” – Manko]

[“Blue So Blue” – Blue]

Artist / SG Member Name: Vivid Vivka a.k.a. Vivid Suicide

Mission Statement: I sling paint, and if someone likes it…that’s a bonus.

[“Brim”]

Medium: Acrylic, pen, marker, wood, canvas, spray paint, coffee grounds, blood, sweat, spit, tears.

Aesthetic: Naked and distorted. Usually with big hair, empty eyes, a lot of pink.

[“Yellow” – Yellow]

Notable Achievements: I believe three people have my work tattooed on their persons. To me, that’s a helluva achievement and intensely flattering. Ink aside, I have a BFA from the College for Creative Studies, in Detroit, MI. I majored in Illustration with a graphic background. I’ve made pieces for childrens’ hospitals in Detroit, had a few gallery shows, and had my work stolen for a ton of shitty band/party flyers. (Stop. Doing. That.)

Why We Should Care: 9 out of 10 viewers agree: it’s art.

[“The Queen of Crows (and Three Little Insects)”]

I Want Me Some: Much of my past art projects can be found on my DeviantArt (as well as many of my modeling photos). For prints and originals, I sell my work at vivka.etsy.com (more originals up soon…kinda sold out right now). Proper website and webstore to be unveiled with glitter and sparkles around mid 2012.

[Crysta in Pray Hard]

Writeboy is Chicago based, and has been a member on SG since 2006. He became a staff photographer in 2010.

How did you first get involved with SuicideGirls?

I think I found out about SG through a friend. I can’t remember exactly. When I moved to Chicago a few years ago and didn’t know many people, I met some of my first local friends on here. SG Chicago had a pretty active group at the time.

What’s your background photography-wise?

SG was my motivation to get into photography. I’d posted some sketches in the SG Fan Art group and the positive reaction felt great. Then a woman I was seeing asked me to take some photos of her for fun and she liked them. So I kind of got addicted. I bought a Canon Rebel, joined Model Mayhem, and started shooting a lot. I volunteered to assist more experienced photographers and did some tutoring sessions. Some local Hopefuls and SGs offered to shoot with me and I’d go to SG Photographer Hopefuls for feedback on the sets. The great thing about photography to me is that it’s not rocket science. My work improved a lot because of some simple suggestions people offered along the way that made a big difference.

[Shyla in Blue]

What was the first photo you had published?

I don’t know if I’ve had anything published in print yet, but my first homepage set for SG was Blue with Shyla Suicide.

How would you describe your style?

Hopefully it comes across as natural and spontaneous. That there’s a connection between model and viewer.

What gear do you use?

Canon 5D Mark 2 and 24-70mm 2.8 lens mostly. Lately I’ve been experimenting with 50mm and 85mm prime lenses to get sharper images. And an assistant with a reflector :)

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

It’s important. A couple months ago I finally woke up and realized I should be following Cherry’s tutorial in the SG Photographer Hopefuls group. It’s always a balance between helping the model look her best while showing her as she is in real life.

What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such amazing sets?

Looking at other sets of course is big. It also comes from what grabs my attention in someone. Do they have amazing hair, striking eyes, unique tattoos? Are they quiet, wild, intense, playful? It can also come from an article of clothing or the setting itself.

[Crysta in Pray Hard]

What is your favorite image?

I like this one from Bounty’s Pray Hard set [see full NSFW image].

Tell us why it’s your fave and how you achieved it?

Bounty just has these amazing big eyes. Also I like that the lighting is soft and her pose is kind of innocent, but there’s something suggestive in her look and the “Hard” tattooed across her knuckles that’s hot in an indirect way.

Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph that you haven’t? (And tell us why)

Tons! It would be cool to shoot with Mary because she’s the original SG to me. As far as newer models, hopeful Spliff_ kind of represents what SG is about for me in that she’s hot in a unique and kind of unconventional way and yet comes across as down to earth and approachable. That’s what I like about lots of the members/models here and what I think makes this site such a unique place.

[DeeDee in LOST]

IvyLlamas is from Barcelona, Spain, and has been shooting for Suicide Girls since 2007.

How did you first get involved with SuicideGirls?

It was in 2007. I was studying photography. One day, I had the pleasure to meet Albertine and Diaz-Arri (two staff photographers). I was seeing how they work and I thought it was really interesting and funny. Then I met some Spanish SG models and they trusted me to shoot a set for the community. Since them, I’ve shot more and more sets. At first I shot many creative sets, but you can see the line where I now try to work with SG in a soft style. Really, I love both styles.

What’s your background photography-wise?

I’ve studied art all my life, but I never finished my formal education. Yes, I was a “bad boy” in the school. You know, drinking… smoking… I was born in a suburb. This was not easy. I started to study the arts ‘cause the only thing I was interested in was music and art. I had many problems in the school with teachers. I think we had different points of view. Finally, I tried to find my own way. And here I am. I can’t live without creating things – music and art.

What was the first photo you had published?

I think around 2006 or 2007 in some Barcelona fanzine.

[Devushka in Fuego Del Alba]

How would you describe your style?

It’s really hard for me to describe my own style. I was always a fan of surrealism and metaphorical images. I want to feel seeing a picture. Sometimes you see a picture, and probably you don’t understand what it means, but I ask, what do you feel? That’s the most important for me. On SG, my style is really soft (lately) but I try to express the atmosphere. Cold, hot, loneliness, melancholy, sensuality… Like I said before, I want you feel.

What gear do you use?

At the moment I use a Canon 5D and a 50mm 1.4. Then for my personal or clients work I use 400w flashes and a million self made inventions.

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

Good question. It really is important, of course, but it’s SO important to have a perfect capture first. I think when you obtain a good capture it’s amazing to work with it in Photoshop. But if you have a bad concept to work with, bad light, bad model, Photoshop can’t do miracles. Photoshop is a good tool if you think before.

What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such amazing sets?

Daily life. I love to take the reality of daily life and transform it into a metaphor. I want to talk in your same language, with the difference that sometimes you haven’t the words to explain it. I love to crash these words and make you feel what I’m talking about. Sometimes a simple smile in the underground can inspire me.

[Crysta in Atrapada en el Blanco]

What is your favorite image?

Wow! Hard question. I have to say I’m really critical with my own work. I shoot a set and two days after I think it should be better. But I have to say I’ve done some interesting sets for SG. For example, I’ve worked many times with DeeDee and I think we did and amazing work. She’s really creative and always invites me to play to her games. Then I have to say my favorite work is the last one. Devushka, Lullabee, Lyona, Tupou, Ukka, and for me, one of my favorites, the last one I shot with Crysta. Yes, she’s my partner, but “Atrapada en el Blanco” is one of my best works. Really special and real

Tell us why it’s your fave and how you achieved it?

With Dee Dee we did the most creative sets I made for SG. Devushka has this kind of mystery, which is so easy to make into poetical and beautiful atmospheres. And finally, with Crystal, she’s hot and fragile, and a perfect model to feel these feelings.

Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph that you haven’t? (And tell us why)

I always think to shoot more fashion stuff, but it’s hard to work it…I have to say that photographers need to live. At the moment my work doesn’t allow me to dedicate time to personal projects, but this next year I’ll start to do new personal works. There are so many things I want to shoot. Every day I want to shoot new things.

[Annalee]

[Anthea]

Artist / SG Member Name: Norritt

Mission Statement: Be creative because it’s fun to make stuff. If you’re not making, you’re consuming – and that just gets boring after a while.

[Kewpie]

Medium: Pen and ink, paint, Photoshop, Vector, photography/photo-manipulation, and various crafts

Aesthetic: Morbid Kawaii is my favorite style but I like to switch it up and try different things. I like making comics the best, it’s just they are time consuming!

[Lyxzen]

Notable Achievements: I was published in the Unite and Take Over book, which is a comic with various stories based on Smith’s songs that can be bought in a lot of comic shops and via Amazon.

Why We Should Care: I try to be varied and change up things to keeps things interesting. I get bored easily so you never know what to expect me to make next!

[Perdita]

I Want Me Some: I am located on various internet spots. Most of my art can be found on DeviantArt.

RealDystopia.com is where you can find the zombie cartoon project I’m working on.

My own site will be called SuperSecredid.com. It will feature my own web-comic, Paper Heroes, a silly superhero serial, and cosplay photos of models. I’m always open to commissions or proposals for art projects. Email me at: jpmanz@gmail.com

[Adria and Temper]

[Temper]

Artist / SG Member Name: Zak Smith / ZakSmith

Mission Statement: I hate it when you’re eating a cheeseburger and then the chef comes out of the kitchen interrupts you eating and goes, “Oh now let me tell you a little bit about why I made a cheeseburger.” Oh wait, I don’t hate that. Because it never happens. Because they never do that. Because that would be stupid.

Medium: Acrylic on paper for the paintings. Ink on paper for the black-and-whites.

Aesthetic: Maximalist.

[Charlie]

Notable Achievements: I have a painting in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and it’s a Suicide Girl — Charlie. I drew one picture for every page of Gravity’s Rainbow. I did an illustrated book of true stories about me working in the adult film industry called We Did Porn. I painted 100 Girls and 100 Octopuses and Charles Saatchi bought it and I know that plural is actually grammatically accurate thanks to friends I made 8 years ago on Suicide Girls. Honey Manko Suicide once called me crass.

Why We Should Care: Because throughout a decade of long disconnection and difficult-to-pin-down multimicronichefamousness SuicideGirls is the closest thing to a home I’ve ever had. And even though I went to Yale, been to a million art dinners, and have watched Sasha Grey lick my cum off another girl’s ass, I can still say to this day that most of the smartest, prettiest, and least sane people I’ve ever met and most of my best models are from this little pink pin-up girl website. Actually, that’s why I should care, isn’t it? I don’t know why you should care.

I Want Me Some: My last two books — Gravity’s Rainbow and We Did Porn were published by Tin House Books, my first one, Pictures Of Girls, was with DAP. Both are available through the usual on-line channels and by harassing finer art-book stores near you. The SG store used to sell some very nice full-size posters of my Charlie and Sawa paintings. If you complain a lot they might do some more. My site is www.zaxart.com.

Lavezzarro comes from South America, but now splits her time between London, Berlin and wherever the wind takes her.

How did you first get involved with SuicideGirls?

Monik’s set was my first time shooting a naked girl. I’m glad it got accepted. That was in 2005 and how it began.

What’s your background photography-wise?

I dropped out of Fashion Design University in the 4th semester as I noticed it wasn’t my thing, and I decided to learn photography without a school. I worked for different studios as assistant where I could learn something, and the main thing I learnt was that I dislike studios. So I kept on doing my thing – I still am learning actually.

What was the first photo you had published?

It probably was a band shot I did for an ex-boyfriend’s band back in 2004 when they were releasing a CD and got featured on a major newspaper.

How would you describe your style?

I am very honest. I like to photograph the girls how they are. I don’t tell them how to dress or to pretend to be something, and I think that can be seen in the images. I’m a bit of dark person, so you won’t be seeing rainbow cupcake pictures coming from me. I am also not a technical person, so I won’t be freaking out looking for the perfect images. I like to capture what happens and I like spontaneity. I think it’s raw.

What gear do you use?

All Canon lenses and body and few analogs, which are my favorites.

How important is Photoshop in your final images?

Not very. I do it very little to none, as I have no talent editing. Now I have amazing Photoshoppers working with me. They can retouch much better than I, but I ask them to keep it really natural. I can’t stand airbrushed images.

What gives you ideas and inspires you to create such amazing sets?

I listen music 24/7 and I am addicted to information. I have to be watching, reading, listening, consuming new stuff all the time – everything can inspire me because I am open to it.

What is your favorite image?

Tell us why it’s your fave and how you achieved it?

It is one of my favorites because it is simple, sexy, natural. Sums up what I like to show; the girls how they really are. The lady was kind of shy and we couldn’t communicate very well because of a language barrier, but I could see in her eyes she had the flame and I think it was properly captured in her whole set.

Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph that you haven’t? (And tell us why)

I really want to photograph as many people as possible, travel more, discover more, so everyone that I haven’t photographed yet I want to photograph one day. And everyone I already have done, I want to do again.
