About Charming Liars

Los Angeles (by way of the UK) alt-rock darlings Charming Liars are getting ready to release a record that they hope will position them near the top of the rock world. 12:31AM is the band’s fourth record and is a testament to their growth as artists. Since relocating from the UK to the sun and melody soaked streets of Los Angeles a few years ago, the band have been mainstays of the LA alt-rock circuit, with regular shows at venues like The Troubadour, Roxy, and the Satellite. Charming Liars have also seen success south of the border, with performances and radio play in Mexico and Brazil, where they have forged a devoted following. With the new record and an upcoming North American tour with Blaqk Audio and Night Riots, the band are hoping to bring some of that success back north of the border. Charming Liars are: Karnig Manoukian (guitar), Mike Kruger (bass), and Kiliyan Maguire (vocals).

About Vicky Hamilton

Long time Grammy Award-Winning music industry executive and personal manager, Vicky Hamilton has been featured on VH-1s Behind the Music, the BBC series Born To Be Wild, The Golden Age Of American Rock, and Biography Channel documentaries on Guns ‘N’ Roses, Brett Michaels, and Mötley Crüe.

Considered one of the most successful music executives in the industry, Vicky has discovered, developed or managed the careers of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Faster Pussycat, and many others.

In 1988, David Geffen hired her as A&R executive at Geffen Records, where she stayed until 1992. She has also worked with famed manager Elliot Roberts at Lookout Management/ Vapor Records, before moving to Capitol Records as A&R consultant with longtime friend Gary Gersh.

At the House of Blues after watching Johnny Cash perform, Rick Rubin (Def Jam, American, Columbia Records) suggested she make a record with June Carter Cash. Hamilton shopped June’s demos around to all the major labels but there was a reluctance to sign this country legend. Unperturbed, Vicky started her own label Small Hairy Dog and gave June a label to call home. Her CD, Press On was released in 1999 and earned a Grammy Award in 2000. As Hamilton later stated, “I didn’t plan on starting a record company, I just knew that June’s music needed to be heard.”

Currently, Vicky owns and operates Aesthetic V Management and Productions, which represents and develops bands, artists, and special projects. Her new documentary, Until The Music Ends, is currently in production, and features Slash. Her two feature length scripts, Metal Maven and Gothic City are also complete and currently being shopped. Glitter Beach, a glam rock surf musical she co-wrote is in development, and has secured Hollywood “It” boy director, Daniel Henning.

Vicky Hamilton’s book, Appetite For Dysfunction, is out now and available on this website and on Amazon!

**UPDATE**

About The Knitts

Garage rock quintet The Knitts — Charlie Volkens (guitars), Justin Volkens (vocals, ukulele), Jaime “Jimmy” Luque (bass), Victor Portillo (guitars), and Brandon Sinclair (drums) — have graduated to the big leagues. Since first launching in 2011, The Knitts have honed their skills in the studio with a handful of releases and on stage via endless shows throughout the indie circuit of greater Los Angeles. Their sound was birthed and nurtured in North Hollywood, the Valley as the locals call it, but their style and aesthetic is uniquely L.A.

For proof, sip on their latest single, “Get Up Get Out,” which follows in the footsteps of Los Angeles rock royalty like Cold War Kids, Fitz and the Tantrums, Jane’s Addiction, and Haim. Reflecting an artistic graduation for the group, “Get Up Get Out” sees a more mature Knitts, with an evolved songwriting skill set, a clearer sense of self, and an impressive cannon of life experience for a band so young. Take, for example, the track’s lyrics. When lead vocalist/keyboardist/primary songwriter Justin Volkens sings, “I started young thinking patience is virtue/Now it seems my cards have been dealt/You’re the type that took all my failures/And turned them into love songs,” it comes from a place built on heartache and pain.

The track itself is a bold take on garage rock and post-punk, with aggressive guitars and a punk rock, fuck-you attitude. Its charged, jumping chorus is melodic enough to inspire sing-along sessions yet angry enough to ignite bar fights and mosh pits, an energy perfectly brought to life via the track’s youth revolt of a music video. This juxtaposition of nice and naughty heard on “Get Up Get Out” is a perfection reflection of their live shows, which often sees singer Volkens splitting his time on the stage with a ukulele in hand and riding above his fans when crowd surfing.

The current iteration of The Knitts embodies the final form of the rock rookies following a few lineup changes during their formative years at the former Hollywood music venue, The Knitting Factory, from which they adopted their name. Composed largely of the Volkens clan, the group features big brother Charlie on guitar, middle brother Justin on vocals, and baby half-bro Brandon Saige Sinclair-Volkens on drums, with lead guitarist Victor Portillo and bassist Jaime “Jimmy” Luque rounding out the band.

The band self-released their 2013 debut EP, “Gutterboy,” a collection of songs recorded in a matter of days. It marked the beginning story of these budding artists ready to leave their mark. Currently, the band is preparing their next project, the “Simple Folk” EP, out spring 2016 on Knitting Factory Records and featuring lead single “Get Up Get Out,” which sees the group flexing the songwriting prowess they’ve been grooming for the past four years.

Now, with power single “Get Up Get Out” in tow and a newfound level of buzz lighting a fire underneath the collective creative unit, The Knitts are making their voice heard. And it’s loud and clear: The Knitts are one must-watch, must-listen, must-experience act impossible to ignore.

**UPDATE**

About Erica Chase

Sometimes it takes a near-death experience to find out what you really want from life. That was exactly the case with new music artist, Erica Chase, when a freak accident nearly cost her her life.

Erica’s love of music began at the age of 7. “Something just clicked for me when I listened to music and I knew I had to learn to play the guitar,” she says. “It sparked something in me.” That spark very nearly got extinguished when, while still in grade school, Erica got up the courage to audition for the school play. The teacher stopped her halfway through the song and gave her some harsh criticism that took an emotional toll on the 7-year-old. “She told me that I couldn’t sing; that I didn’t have a good enough voice. And I believed her. That belief stayed with me for a long time.” Erica turned away from her true calling for years; choosing instead to devote her energies to sports. Music, though, was always in the back of her mind, never fully loosening its grasp on her.

Years later, Erica began her last semester at Pitzer College thinking that she would use her English degree and become a teacher. It was the path she thought she should take, even though her heart was not invested. However, when a teaching program geared towards education in inner city schools rejected her, life became suddenly unclear. Though she fronted her college band, both singing and playing guitar, and was passionate about music, she admittedly didn’t know the first thing about the music industry. That was until Erica managed to arrange a phone call with a prominent artist manager/producer who would later play a key role in Erica’s life and career. This call had a profound effect on Erica; it gave her something she had not felt about having a music career: hope and encouragement.

In a bizarre twist of fate less than 24 hours later, while riding her bicycle to meet a friend for lunch Erica was hit by a truck and nearly killed. She was transferred to a flight-for-life helicopter. “Everything went completely white,” says Chase of that day. “I’ve heard other near death stories where people talk about the white light, but to actually see it is a visual I will never shake.”

It was a big wake up call for Erica; she had a new appreciation for the fragility of life and realized she had to follow her true passion for music. “I suddenly realized how tenuous our grasp on life is — how impermanent we are. That’s the moment I knew I had to put everything else aside and pursue my music, chase my dreams, and live every moment like it’s my last and hopefully I will inspire others to never give up on their own dreams.”

Now after investing relentless time developing her own sound, Erica is ready to meet the world.
