About Them Guns

Them Guns was formed in 2013 by frontman Navarone Garibaldi and keyboardist Kyle Hamood in Santa Cruz, CA. Nav met drummer Chris Hudson while attending high school in Los Angeles, who years later joined the group. Chris and bassist Chuck Holiday were the rhythm section of a previous band and the pieces all came together after the rhythm section was complete.

In April 2015, the independent film Shut Up and Drive, starring Sarah Sutherland (daughter of Kiefer), made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie’s soundtrack features three of the band’s songs: “Close Your Eyes,” “Devil’s Eye,” and “Heard It All Before.”

About Faster Pussycat

No band epitomizes Hollywood sleaze more than Faster Pussycat. Countless bands have adopted their look and demeanor in order to try and ride the Hollywood wave to success. Most fail. For those bands it’s a costume, an act. For Faster Pussycat it’s a way of life. They said it best in their own song “Sex, drugs & Rock-n-Roll” off their 2006 album The Power and the Glory Hole. However don’t be mistaken, they are much more than an image. First and foremost they are a rock & roll band that has put out consistently great records and given it all on stage, where it counts the most.

Singer Taime Downe formed the band in 1986, taking its name from the cult classic Russ Meyer film Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! In 1987 they released their self-titled debut album which went gold. The album was loaded with sexual innuendo and bravado and struck a nerve in the glam rock community, though they were always a little more down and dirty than glam. During that time, they were interviewed and played two songs (“Cathouse” and “Bathroom Wall”) in the documentary film The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years. The documentary captured the general vibe of the Sunset Strip bands during that time period, with Faster Pussycat being featured front and center.  

In 1989 they released the album Wake Me When It’s Over, which spawned the massive top 25 hit single “House of Pain” — which propelled them beyond the Sunset Strip to worldwide acclaim. They received substantial airtime on MTV for the video and toured with some of the biggest bands in history: Guns n’ Roses, David Lee Roth, Mötley Crüe, Kiss, Alice Cooper, and many more. The album went gold and to this day many hail “House of Pain” as one of the greatest power ballads of all time. The band’s line-up during this time was Taime Downe (vocals), Greg Steele (guitar), Brent Muscat (guitar), Kelly Nickels (bass), and Mark Michals (drums).

In 1992 the band released the album Whipped and toured in support of it. Following the tour the band broke up, with each member heading in separate musical directions.
Taime Downe decided to go in a more industrial rock direction working with the Chicago-based band Pigface, before relocating back to Los Angeles to form The Newlydeads, who would release three albums. Their self-titled debut, a remix album titled Re-bound, and Dead End.

In 2001 Taime Downe decided it was time to get Faster Pussycat back together to give the world another dose of the Hollywood sleaze that had all but disappeared during the grunge era. Muscat and Steele rejoined the band along with The Newlydeads core members: Xristian Simon, Danny Nordahl, and Chad Stewart.

Faster Pussycat quickly put out a collection of industrial remixes of the band’s early songs produced by Downe and played to enthusiastic crowds around the world. During this time Muscat and Steele left again.

2006 saw the band’s first full-length release in 14 years, The Power & The Glory Hole, and proved that under Taime’s leadership the band was in good hands. 2009 saw the release of a live album, Front Row for the Donkey Show. Both records were put out by Full Effect and the reviews were positive.

In 2010 guitarist Ace Von Johnson joined Faster Pussycat cementing the current line-up. The interjection of fresh blood into the band was immediately noticeable as his high energy performance rejuvenated the group and their live performances. It was like 1987 again.

Faster Pussycat is currently working on a new EP and doing what they’ve always done, touring heavily, rocking the fuck out of every venue they play, and keeping the spirit of Hollywood sleaze alive and well.

About Colette Carr

Ask Colette Carr to describe herself and she’ll respond with a series of descriptive words: Expressive, optimistic, artful, accepting, free, surprising, honest, bold, quirky. The Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter’s upcoming single, “Play House,” shows all of these sides, revealing: “I am the girl that lives in her Pokemon pajamas, orders food in, works late and is scared of the concept of growing a human inside of me. When I wrote “Play House” it was about a boy that made me want to dress super-girly, cook for him, and have tiny human babies with him! That was something I’d never felt before. So I decided to write a song about it.”

Colette’s last EP, Static. Start., represented a radical reboot from her previous releases, showing a more vulnerable, emotionally and naked honesty that touched on frustrating relationships (“Moments in Love,” “Walking in Place”) before hitting bottom with a Tequila-fueled, self-loathing hangover (“3%”). She described its evolving sound as “an alternative pop, dance-floor feel.” Her new EP, slated for release in spring 2016, conveys these same themes and emotions, representing her growth as both a woman and artist.

A childhood tennis star whose back problems led to an interest in music, drawing and painting, Colette started listening to The Cure and The Smiths before discovering classic rock like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, with favorites including Gwen Stefani, Talking Heads, and Deborah Harry before gravitating to rappers like Eminem, Wu-Tang Clan, and Snoop Dogg. Inspired to start rapping herself, a teenage Carr was urged by her sister during a concert at UCLA featuring The Game, to jump on-stage and freestyle herself. It was then that she knew music was her path in life.

What followed that fateful night was a self-released video, “Back It Up,” which went to #1 at mtvU, attracting the attention of Nick Cannon, who helped Colette release her debut mixtape, “Sex Sells Stay Tooned,” through his label. That attracted the attention of then-Interscope boss Jimmy Iovine, who signed her to a recording contract. Colette went straight into the recording studio to complete her debut album, The Skitszo Collection, which produced the Billboard Dance hit, “Never Gonna Happen” and the Billboard Uncharted topper, “(We Do It) Primo,” working with producers such as RedOne (Lady Gaga). Deciding to forge her own path, Carr took what she learned at the label and began to record music on her own. “Ham,” featuring Ben J, was played on more than 30 stations nationwide and went Top 10 on Shazam in San Francisco, Portland and St. Louis.

Working with longtime friend, producer/writer FrankMusik, Carr decided to confront all those insecurities and vulnerabilities that come with a music career and the spotlight at a young age and put those emotions into her songs. 

“I’m singing about things I wouldn’t even talk about,” says the reticent Carr, who otherwise connects with her fans on all the requisite social media. “I vowed to grow a pair this time… take chances, reveal my soul, tell stories about my shitty relationships by tapping into areas that might cause pain.” Collaborating with producer FrankMusik helped provide the canvas. “We have something very special together,” she says. “Frank has this militant approach that squeezes the best out of me. This direction seemed more difficult, but it also represents the most possibilities of growth.”

Having already road-tested some of the new material while playing on iHeartRadio’s recent “On the Rise” tour, Carr is currently putting the finishing touches on her new EP and rehearsing the songs with a full band, ready to bring the new music to her fans, making them aware they are the motivation behind her every creative move, offering counsel and advice from her own experiences.

More than just her music and art, Colette’s life is dedicated to “helping and inspiring people to be comfortable and confident with who they are. I’m not afraid to let everyone see my flaws, hoping my music inspires them. Doing this all myself, I realized how much I took for granted. I appreciate the struggle. I wouldn’t want it any other way. If I had succeeded too quickly, it wouldn’t have the same value. I’m hungrier and happier than ever because I’m making stuff I’m proud to hang on the wall.

“This path I’m on will not be traveled alone… That momentum will be gained from everyone involved, including my family and fans. We make it go.”

“Play House” will be available on iTunes and other online stores, January 29.

About State To State

State to State is a band ready to leave their mark. Since releasing their first LP No Bounds in 2014, they have established themselves as flag bearers of atmospheric rock, while looking to create a new path for themselves in a landscape forged by bands like Muse, Radiohead, and Interpol. Their new EP “Motives” might be just that: the collection of songs to separate them from their peers and reaffirm the power of progressive guitar driven rock.

“Motives” is five tracks of soaring, inspired alternative rock that was produced and recorded by Grammy Award nominee Ian MacGregor (Katy Perry, Twenty One Pilots, All American Rejects, Ariana Grande) at Greg Wells’ Rocket Carousel Studio in Culver City, CA. Guitarist Andrew Orvis talked about the recording process: “Creating this new record has been quite a journey for us. Thankfully, working with Ian MacGregor has been like having a fifth member of the band and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Recording at Rocket Carousel gave us the opportunity to experiment with all kinds of gear, which really helped expand our tonal options for each song.”

Since forming in 2010 the band have slowly been building the groundwork for success in Los Angeles with residencies at notable venues like The Viper Room and Hotel Cafe. They have also performed at The Pancakes and Booze pop-up art show and the Eat See Hear & Street Food Cinema. With “Motives” State to State are ready to make waves within the Los Angeles alt scene, and with tour dates in the works for early 2016, they have their eyes set on the rest of the country. State to State is Shea Stratton (vocals / guitar), Andrew Orvis (guitar), Feudor Lokshin (drums), and Patrick Morgan (bass).

About Strangers You Know

We all start out as strangers before we meet and that’s exactly how the band formed. Grady Lee snuck into Coachella — kids, we do not condone this sort of behavior, even if it gets you into a sold out music festival where you meet your future bandmate and embark on a musical journey that brings you two EPs and a full-length recording that showcases your ability to meld together sounds that surpass genres! Anyway, Adam Haagen was at said music festival with some friends who just happened to be pretty girls and Grady wandered over. If it weren’t for the stealth behavior on Grady’s part — and the pretty girls — he and Adam may never have met. They went their separate ways after this chance encounter, only to find themselves at the right time and the right place four months later. This allowed Grady and Adam to go from strangers to musical brothers in arms.

They formed a connection over synths, beats, guitars, lyrics and melody, leading to their first EP, “Something to Someone.” Released in 2014, the title is a remark on sentimentality and a snapshot of where they were as artists at the time. Everything means something to someone, and when these songs where recorded they represented feelings and emotions that were present at that moment.

“Right now, we’re just synthesizing our favorite things,” says Adam referring to the evolution of Strangers You Know’s sound. What followed “Something to Someone” was 2015’s What Happened. Listening to this full-length album, you get a sense of where the music is going and how layered it is. What Happened is theatrical. There’s never a dull moment in the sound. Everything comes together with no gaps. It’s rich and eclectic. It’s a collaboration of two musical minds one from Santa Barbara (Grady) and the other from West LA (Adam). But the music isn’t about California; it’s about amalgamating their influences that range from folk to rock to pop to electronica. Strangers You Know’s sound represents everything that they’re feeling in the moment.

With their new EP, Grady and Adam continue to evolve. With every release, a new sound emerges. It’s a new version of the band — with the same members of course — that follows the trajectory of their music. In the studio Adam and Grady work in tandem. Sure there are disputes about where a certain melody may go or if a lyric is right for a particular song but in the end, everything comes together perfectly.

In an industry where image is key and rehashing the same sounds over and over again is the only way get ahead, Strangers You Know take a different approach. “It’s not this giant group of pop ideology of other people telling us what we need to be,” Grady says of their dynamic. Strangers You Know do everything themselves from the songwriting to the recording. It’s their music and no matter how much it grows and shifts it will always belong to them. But more importantly, it belongs to the listener.

With Strangers You Know the one constant you can count on is that their music will endlessly evolve into something for not just someone but for everyone.
