This post is going to be completely different than the usual Doing it with Jensen posts. I’ve got this friend, Ocell, who co-writes Food We Chew. He always posts all of this amazing looking food but I’ve never seen any real evidence that he can cook. So I proposed that we do a blog together. Basically, I wanted an excuse for a cute dude to make me food, and I saw pictures of these amazing looking bagels he had made and decided I needed them in my stomach. My life is tough! Anyways, I’m behind the camera this time, not in front! Sorry gentlemen, this one is for the ladies. Or something.

If you don’t have a bread machine, you’re pretty much fucked. And not in a good way. No bagels for you, sorry :[. I’m sure there are plenty of awesome non-bread machine bagel recipes, but this is not one of those.

If you want the full recipe and directions, check out AllRecipes.com.

The CEO of GoDaddy, Bob Parsons, has posted a video of his vacation in Zimbabwe online. Normally not something that would cause controversy, it’s the slaughter of an innocent elephant being glorified that has the internet in an uproar. The video opens with “For the second year in a row, I spent ten days hunting problem elephant in Zimbabwe.”

The video below contains scenes of graphic violence against animals. Viewer discretion is advised.

Parsons, accompanied by local tour guides, shows where crops have been trampled by these “problem elephant” on his self-proclaimed “humanitarian” expedition. “Many die each year from starvation and one of the problems they have is the elephants, of which there are thousands and thousands, that trash many of their fields destroying the crops. Of everything I do this is the most rewarding. This video shows one typical night and day.” This is how he rationalizes what comes next…

32-year-old model Mia Tyler comes from rock royalty. The fashion designer, actress, author and now music manager is the daughter of Aerosmith front man (and American Idol judge) Steven Tyler and the late-Warhol muse and Bowie video chick Cyrinda Foxe (she and Tyler sustained a rocky marriage from 1978-1987). But, Mia is a rebel of her own making. She stands for living out loud – and loving your body exactly as it is! *That’s not to say she doesn’t have some amazing body mods!*

An advocate of “plus-size” modeling, she’s appeared on the runways of New York and Paris and in Vogue. As she says, “Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and packages. Including ME!”

I had an exclusive interview with the bold brunette – and she had some revealing insights about female friendships, forging your own path and her favorite pastime with sister, Liv.

Read (and rock) on…

Yumz. So quite a while back I saw these cheeseburger cupcakes on Food Network or some shit like that, and kind of fell in love. They are good because you can make them as homemade or, um, not homemade, as you’d like. If you use all store bought stuff, people are still going to say “holy balls, these cupcakes look like cheeseburgers!” and if you make it all homemade, people are going to say “holy balls, these cupcakes taste amazing and look like cheeseburgers!” so either way you’re good. For this, I’m using all store bough box mixes and such, but if you’re in a Susie Homemaker mood, definitely make them from scratch :].

Yummmm. This recipe is inspired by an SG member that told me about his yummy ice cream variation with lavender, another member blogging about pumpkin pot pie (see what I did there?), and an, um, interesting graduation present I received from a friend. If you aren’t really into cooking with medicinal substances and/or don’t have a valid prescription from your doctor, then you can definitely tweak the recipe to suit your needs :]. And if you guys need a refresher on ice cream making, here is a video on how easy it is to make (with nothing more hi tech than two ziplock bags and a few hunks of ice to do the chillin’):

“Your trade secret is that you’re killing people?”

– Howard Straus

In the 1920s, Dr. Max Gerson developed the Gerson Therapy, a methodology of boosting the immune system largely led by an organic diet that has been at controversial odds with conventional medicine for decades — despite a difficult-to-ignore track record of helping people survive cancer and other terminal illnesses.

The Beautiful Truth is a documentary which explores this treatment regimen. It was directed and shot by Steve Kroschel, an accomplished wildlife cinematographer and natural history filmmaker. This is his third film about the Gerson Therapy, but this time his subject hits closer to home; Garret, the 15-year-old boy who serves as the film’s central figure, is Kroschel’s son.
